According to many people there was once a time when Nepal was the land of peace and hospitality the name conjures up thanks to Hollywood.
In places this is still the case yet frustratingly the locations it is possible to not be treated like and ambling ATM are fairly few. Even theft and muggings were unthinkable by those who came before, some as few as two years ago.

Aside, however, the landscape is breathtaking, yaks copious and the trail just as breathtaking (altitude makes for a bad lung buddy).
As the Lonely Planet puts it, "the 3 passes is a strenuous trek for the truly adventurous". As the oppo put it: "a month around Everest. No guides, no perters, no mercy"

A strange property of Nepla seems to be its determination to restore your confidence in it after destroying any reason to think the locals either hopitable or nice. Sir Edmund only got it half right. The only thing you need to survive in Nepal is cash, and lots of it. Even a tent and the right gear will only get you so far.
